ARCHITETTURA E MESTIERE
Lecture at Ming Chuan University Taoyuan
The story of the construction of a building is seen as an opportunity to speak to students about architecture as a profession that concerns processes, not just objects, of indeterminacy, change, adaptability, learning, and creativity, as understood by Cedric Price.
The Fun Palace as an archetype of contemporary practice: the ability to engage with complexity, integrate different demands, and multiple layers of meaning, organizing them into a coherent and unified system.
The narrative is divided into three chapters:
The relationship with the context understood as the ability to read clues and the cynical negotiation between the compositional desire and the need to built a manufact that will be part of the city. The project as a contribution to the construction of the urban environment
The opportunity: the possibility of using a project as a tool for research, considering the process not simply as a set of responses to requests or solutions to problems, but as an occasion to explore, experiment, and conduct research through the project itself
The importance of the coherence of details, both among themselves and with the general concept, and the tenacity to keep together all the factors involved in a construction process without betraying the promise made in the preliminary phases
