Renovation of a Small House in a Stone Village
A small two-story house nestled among many others is addressed by focusing most of the budget and design efforts on the staircase connecting the two inhabited floors: the first, a living space with a small living room, kitchen, and bathroom, and the second, with two bedrooms.
The staircase, made of natural ash wood finished with a matte transparent varnish, is structured in two parts—one resting on the floor and the other suspended from the ceiling. The fragmentation of the object into two parts, in addition to providing a balanced compositional look, resolves the radical misalignment and irregularities of the walls and ceiling planes typical of stone houses.
